Cambria-Rowe Business College to close next month

JOHNSTOWN - Cambria-Rowe Business College is closing its doors Aug. 24.
The school's accrediting body, the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), is currently under fire with the Department of Education and could lose its recognition.
During a hearing on June 24, 2016, the Department of Education recommended ACICS lose its accreditation.
Right now, ACICS are still a recognized accrediting body.
The U.S. Department of Education secretary has 90 days from the hearing to make a decision, and ACICS can then appeal it within 30 days.
More than 900 colleges across the country could potentially close.
Those schools, including Cambria-Rowe, have up to 18 months to find a new accreditor, according to Aaron Shenck, executive director of the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators.
However, former CEO Mike Artim said Cambria-Rowe will not be seeking a new accrediting body in the best interest of the students.
Penn Highlands Community College has agreed to take the lead in welcoming all CRBC students, in both Johnstown and Indiana, to take courses that will allow them to complete their degree.
“Those of us at Penn Highlands are saddened by the news that Cambria-Rowe is closing. We have always viewed Cambria-Rowe as an education partner, and we will do all we can to ensure that their students can complete their degrees with minimal interruption,” said Dr. Walter Asonevich of Penn Highlands Community College.
