Grange Fair hosts annual 'Kids Day'; PSU teaches kids, families about healthy eating

Monday was "Kids’ Day" at the 148th Centre County Grange Encampment and Fair.

This year's "Miss Congeniality," Mackenzie Peters, and ambassador Haley Zeigler spent time doing arts and crafts with children.

Zeigler is a 2021 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School and says she has been coming to the fair her entire life.

She says she got involved with the fair queen competition because she looked up to past contestants.

Zeigler says one of her favorite days outside of “Kids’ Day” is parade day, which is coming up on Thursday afternoon, rain or shine.

Also, at the Grange Fair on Monday, Penn State Extension was educating children and adults on healthy eating.

Officials say it's important to teach children how to eat healthy, using less sugary and fatty foods and drinks and eating more fruits and vegetables.

"They learn a lot about nutrition, how to cook healthy on a budget, we talk about sugar, we talk about portion sizes, obviously how to save money and eat healthy at the same time, which is becoming a bigger and bigger problem right now."

Penn State Extension offers a six week "nutrition links" program that is geared for adults to teach them how to eat healthier, as well as learn how to shop and cook on a budget.
