organizers asking for donations for food drive in Windber

Windber, Pa. (WJAC) — This year has taken a toll on everyone and has led people to struggle financially.
The Windber Fire Department and Memorial Highway Chevrolet are teaming up for a Food Drive to help those who need it most.
Organizers are asking you to bring non-perishable food items to fill up the back of a Red Silverado truck parked at the Windber Fire Department.
Friday, November 20th is the last day you can drop off food donations.
"People are having hardships due to COVID-19 and losing jobs. We're just trying to give back to those who really need it this year," said Misty Plunkard, EMT & outreach coordinator for Windber Fire and Northern EMS.
All food benefits the Windber Area Community Kitchen and their backpack program.
They're asking for shelf-stable food like granola bars, soups, pudding cups, and other snacks.
The donations will be taken to W.A.C.K. on November 23rd for distribution.
'We do a lot of volunteering and donations with a lot of entities in Windber itself. We're big on family at the dealership and big on community. There was no better place than to start in our own backyard," says Lauren Nave, Community Liaison at Memorial Highway Chevrolet.
