NEW YORK -- Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, Louisville's Lamar Jackson and Stanford's Bryce Love have been named finalists for the Heisman Trophy.

Penn State junior running back Saquon Barkley - once considered the front-runner to win the prestigious award - was not selected as a finalist to attend the ceremony Saturday in New York City.

Barkley was recently named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, Running Back of the Year and Return Specialist of the Year, becoming the second player in conference history to win three major awards.

He is also a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award, Maxwell Award, Doak Walker Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.

No. 9 Penn State faces No. 11 Washington on Dec. 30 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Jackson is trying to become the second player to win two Heismans, joining former Ohio State star Archie Griffin, but Mayfield will come to Manhattan as the clear front-runner.

He finished fourth in the Heisman voting in 2015 but was not invited to New York. Last year, he was one of five finalists and finished third behind Jackson and Clemson's Deshaun Watson.
