Scranton officer critically injured in shooting identified

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Officials offered an update Friday afternoon on the shooting thatleft an officer injured on Thursday morning.
They identified the critically injured officer as Detective Kyle Gilmartin, who has been with the department for nine years.
Gilmartin remains in the hospital in critical but stable condition at Geisinger CMC.
Detective Kyle Gilmartin was injured on 01/11/24 from an officer-involved shooting in West Scranton. Gilmartin boasts a commendable 9-year tenure with the Scranton Police Department. Presently, he serves in the Major Crimes Unit and the Auto Theft Task Force. Dennis Fregona D'Augostine, Senior Police Chaplain for the Scranton Police Department, also said he "received a wonderful update" Friday morning for his "brother in blue."
The shooting took place early Thursday morning after Scranton police were investigating two other shootings that had happened earlier in the evening.
During their investigation, Scranton police located a suspect and an exchange of gunfire occurred. Both Gilmartin and an unnamed individual were shot. Both were transported to Geisinger CMC.
Pennsylvania State Police say charges have been filedin the shooting investigation.
PSP says subsequent investigations revealed that the suspect, in the company of 19-year-old Jeremiah Cleveland, was responsible for the shots fired incidents in the Hill Section and South Scranton.

According to the affidavit, detectives started to monitor Cleveland on Instagram Live talking about the shootings and challenging anyone with a problem to meet him and dropping a pin.
The detectives observed the stream from Sheetz gas station and traveled to the location where they obtained surveillance footage of the vehicle previously viewed.
Cleveland posted another Instagram live on January 11th stating that a shooting was going to occur on Orchard Street in Scranton.
Cleveland is charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, carrying a firearm without a license, recklessly endangering another person and criminal use of a communication facility.
