Spangler Fire Company gives back to the community during Fire Prevention Week

It's the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week and the Spangler Fire Company in Northern Cambria is giving back to their community.
The Spangler Fire Company applied for a FEMA grant this past year and was awarded 16 thousand dollars.
They used those funds to supply 200 homes in Northern Cambria Borough and West Carroll Township with 2 smoke alarms and 1 carbon monoxide detector each.
“Fire prevention was started in 1922, so this would be the 100th year," said Jay Nagle, the fire chief of the Spangler Fire Company. "We lucked out and got the grant. We got to support fire prevention week plus give a service back to the people who support us in the community.”
He emphasizes the need that people in the community had for the alarms.
“We had an outstanding and overwhelming response," said Nagle. "The first day we gave out 158 packages and on the second day the remainder was gone within 45 minutes.”
The fire company is planning to apply for another FEMA grant next year so that they can continue providing free alarms to the community.
